Is it because:
1- Four bloody years into Iraq we see what a huge disaster its been.
2-The blind partisanship #1 created in the GOP has not caused the to be invincible in elections
3- A mahority of Amnerican see the good-natured trust the had in the Bush Administration 5 years ago is now a quaint naviete that will never happen again.

or 4: all of the above.

4 and then some. I'm convinced some are simply playing politics, war is unpopular I'm against it too. But most of them hopefully realize the disaster created in Iraq is the worst foreign policy failure in American History. The surge isn't working. If you put thousands of American soldiers in an area, in that area the security improves. Success would be sustainable progress. The US army is the best trained and best funded, it would be very embarrassing if the American army wasn't even able to secure an area. But that' was not the goal of the surge.
Where's the political solution in Iraq? The situation is still the same as before. If America leaves there will be a war in Iraq. The longer America stays the longer American soldiers die in vain for the prestige of the Texan cowboy only delaying the inevitable power struggle that has to take place in Iraq at some point anyway.

Where's the link? Even the major news organizations, mostly liberal, are reporting that deaths of both soldiers and civilians in Iraq are at a low and the surge was an overwhelming success. I don't know what Republicans you are talking about and I don't think you do, either. Where's the proof?

I haven't seen this happening amongst the majority of Republicans. Republicans aren't quitters when the going gets tough.
