We are military and new to the area. We have a 7 year old daughter and a newborn son. Would you consider Wurstfest to be a family event? I would like to go, but want to make sure it won't be a waste of our time and money. (I heard someone mention it is expensive. Is this true?)

Wurstfest can be fun, but I have often felt it has always been more fun for adults. They have an area with carnival rides, but they can be a little costly. The food is nice and the music and german type festival atmosphere is great. There is a lot of beer consumed, and many people are not well controlled, so I would not want to take my new-born at night, but earlier on the weekends would be OK.

Don't take my answer wrong. I have always enjoyed Wurstfest, but the cost has increased over the years, and the drinking often does affect some of the people's conduct. If you take young children, keep them close.

There are many local festivals, but this one has more of an emphasis on beer and therefore is less a family event than the Poteet Strawberry Festival, or other festivals in the area.

Wurstfest is a lot of fun, but it does involve eating AND drinking.......perhaps not the best event for a newborn or 7 year old. There are many events that are geared to younger aged kids. I do not really think Wurstfest is one of them.

My family lives in New Braunfels, and go to Wurstfest every year. Unlike many of the festivals NB has, it is more for Adults.

The whole town dresses up for Christmas, though, and there is a Wassail festival. Contact NB website for more info.

Great food and great beer, but I really don't think it's an event for small children.

"Wurstfest" is German and means Sausage Feast
Wurstfest is like an "Oktoberfest"..... just with lots of Sausage.
You probably will see Lederhosen and Dirndls, tons of sausage, because the Wurstfest is a celebration of German food and culture. Alpine Yodeling, "Oompah" and "Schuhplattler" dancing.
"Wurst" is probably not all that's being served.....German Potato Pancakes, Strudel and of course Beer!
