be careful posting anything on a free or open website. Your work can be stolen easily.

also publishers may consider an article or story as having been already published since it was in a venue open to the public.

If you are looking for a critique group, choose a private site. AW is a good one. Also consider www.thewritingbridge.org

I've received professional-quality feedback at the Share Your Work boards at AbsoluteWrite.com. Be aware that because they are password-protected, your work's appearance there does not qualify as previously published online. This may affect editors' decisions in the future; some reject work which has appeared online where non-members could read it free.

FWIW, I've never gotten valuable feedback on any other public writing site, although I've identified people who gave good critique at other sites and contacted them privately to swap critiques.

For me, the feedback at AW has made the difference between making a sale and not. It doesn't get any better, does it?

The only one I actually trust is this site:
http://www.writersdigest.com/mbbs/forum/category-view.asp

It's free to join. I use it from time to time if I want good critique. A lot of people on the site are always willing to edit and usually know a thing or two about editing/publishing.

Zoetrope.com. It's Francis Ford Coppola's website for writers and screenwriters. You post stuff and other users write reviews for it. I've been a member for years and it's great (and free).
