The only danger of hot baths or showers is that it has the potential to raise your blood pressure which can cause harm to the baby. If your blood pressure is under control and remains that way hot showers are fine.

well, in my first trimester, i would take extremely hot baths to the point where i sweat a lot because i was going through a break up with a guy i loved, and those hot baths were the only thing that would keep me calm and from hurting. I didn't know that it was bad. I honestly didn't. I started stressing out so bad and worrying when i found out what could happen to the baby. I'm almost in my third trimester now, in a few weeks i'll be, my doctor says my baby is developing normally, but i still worry about it and right when i found out i almost hated myself for doing that and not knowing the consequences. And ever since i found out that it could harm him, i never took a bath that was hot. i don't know anyone who's baby was harmed, because everyone i know, stopped going in hot water while they were pregnant. I would recommend taking hot showers instead. That's what i do, and it's fine. Because you're not fully submerged in it. It's really nice if you sit down in the shower too. I can't take standing showers anymore. So i just sit down and it seems to relax me just as much as the baths and i don't have to worry about the temperature.

I have read that being in water that is too hot can "boil the baby" but I can't find where.. this is all I could find on babycenter.com
"It's not a good idea unless you can control the temperature and set it at no more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Soaking in hot water or sitting in a hot, steamy room can make you overheat, which raises your heart rate and reduces blood flow to your uterus, potentially putting your baby under stress or interfering with normal development. And because pregnant women have a hard time cooling down, you're more likely to pass out if you get overheated in a hot tub or sauna — an especially dangerous proposition in either setting"

The danger is raising your body temp to a point where it is unsafe for you, as well as for the baby.
Taking a hot shower shouldn't hurt, as long as the water isn't scalding hot and not for over 15 mins. You shouldn't sit in a tub of hot water for over 10 mins, and you shouldn't apply a heating pad on you for longer than 15 mins at any time. Stay away from jacuzzis. Avoiding hot tubs while pregnant because it could raise your body temp to 102 or higher, if this happens it has been linked to neural tube defects in babies, such as spina bifida. If I were you I would ask my doctor about it.

No...you can shower or bath as normal...you cannot however use hot tubs / steam rooms.
The difference is in a bath, the temperature drops from the moment you get it, in a hot tub for example it holds steady at 104 or thereabouts (most household hot water systems are set to heat no more than that)....the danger is most extreme in the first trimester when it can lead to abnormalities in a developing baby. The other risk is moms to be might be more prone to over heating and light headedness which can be made worse by heat...so I would enjoy warm but not hot baths and showers if that becomes an issue!

Yes, as long as the water temperature isn't over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. If you have to ease your foot into the tub, it's too hot. If you're comfortable getting into the water, the temperature is close to your own body temperature, which is where you want it. Anything hotter can damage your baby's developing cells, and though you can cool off by sweating, your baby can't. It's also fine to use bath oils or bubble bath — your cervix is closed, so there's no danger of these products reaching your baby.

I agree with Betsy. I also take hot showers and baths and the only danger I've found is the possibility of raising your temperature. To keep this from happening especially since I'm bigger and exert more energy now for simple activities is to air dry or lay under the ceiling fan after the shower.

Yes you can get your water to hot for the baby, when i was pregnant and with my son i use to love to take hot baths and showers but my doctor told me not to make it to hot just hot enough to relax and thats it so maybe you should run your bath water and get a thermometer and see how hot your water is, Also congrats on the baby,

I am 37 weeks, and I have taken hot showers and baths my entire pregnancy. I don't believe it poses any risks to the baby unless the water is almost boiling or if you have high blood pressure. Speaking of I am going to take one right now : ) congrats on your little one!!

you can take hot showers. you just shouldn't sit in a hot tub, jacuzzi or steam room because it can raise your body temperature.
I feel bad if you've been taking cold showers during your entire pregnancy. Take a warm bath and relax! You'll be fine.
