No abercrombie and Hollister are not considered to be designer brands... They are just a popular higher end brand. Designer Brands consist of Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Hermes, Christian Louboutin, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Oscar De La Renta, Coach, Dior, Chanel, Miu Miu, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Armani, Dooney & Burke, Roberto Cavalli, Micheal Kors, Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace, Zac Posen, Yves Saint Laurent, etc. (Just to name a few lol) But the difference is the quality and price point. Designer Brands are high fashion, HIGH priced, and are mainly based in Europe... They do runway shows and are high quality, while Abercrombie and Hollister are also good quality they're just not as extravagant and are just strictly retail based chains... Hope this helps! :)

I've had both and the one Coach wasn't entirely made of leather. Only the trim and strap was. The same goes for Dooney & Burke.. only the trim and strap is leather. The quality of the purses are better than your average purse, but if you ask me, they are both over priced for the type of material you get. Save some money and buy them at the outlet stores because the styles are pretty much the same, though the patterns on the purses do change. The purse I'm currently using is Brahmin and it's an excellent quality... full leather and it looks like alligator.

I just received a dooney and burke bag, it is full leather, and vintage, It has lasted 17 years with the smallest wear and tear. It is very easy to care for, and exceptionally sturdy. You can even have them refurbished, yet even so old it doesnt need it. It looks fantastic! Better than most purses after only a year. Go Dooney!!!

I think Dooney & Burke and Coach have both lost their appeal from a high end stand point. These days EVERYBODY has a purse that brand, thus making the prices seem more affordable. They are not low end at all, but I think they fall into a middle category. When I think of high end purses, I think of the more couture brands carried by Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf's, Sak's etc.

Dooney and Burke is a high end branda as well as Coach. Both purses are very well made and would look great and last a long time.

Yes they are both supposed to be high end bags... but I have had several coach bags and a Dooney and Bourke bag, and their quality was crap! Especially the Jacquard print on the coach- it wears fast... and the lambswool wore off the trim of one of my totes... cheap but expensive if you know what i mean...

I agree with Laurin. I spent $300. on my last Coach bag, only because I could not bring myself to spend $800. on the Gucci bag I really wanted. There are some bags that cost $20,000. I can't think of the brand off hand, but celebrities like Jessica Simpson/Paris Hilton/Britney Spears carry them.

They are both mid-level brands. Their products command a premium price and are generally of high quality. I doubt you could make the case that you would buy either if it was not easy to identify the products visually. The biggest attraction is in having others see us with those goods and thinking " my....that person has style and class".

well neither of them are full out designer, but coach is definately brand name, dooney in burke is just weird, it wants you to think its designer, but its definately not, if your considering the two, pick coach
