Highways or Prisons?

Question

I live in Texas where the Highways arent finished but we build at least 2 new prisons every year.

My question is how do you feel that part of your tax dollars are going to feed criminals : convicted killers, child molesters, rapists, burglars etc..

When more important things such as schools and highways can be built.

Dont you just think we should send all of these people somewhere in some large prision in Antartica away from people and penguins where us law abiding citizens can have a better education and roads.

I dont like knowing im feeding criminals

They should get a meal a day sleep on the floor and never go outside and have no luxuries such as television

Jack is wrong, there is a third option, make them work, make them get out in the fields and grow the food they eat. No work no food. If they don't work the fields because they have a disability or some other legit reason, find something else for them to do like clean the food brought in from the fields, or do the laundry for the ones working in the fields. If they are worried about escaping prisoners, then shackle them. A good days work won't hurt them, a lot of them say they turned to crime because they couldn't find a job, so give them one. I'm not saying make them work from dawn to dusk. They could work say 5 hours a day and a six day work week, It's not like they couldn't have two shifts say 7am-12 noon, then the next shift from 12 noon to 5pm. They sure can't say they don't have enough prisoners. Any crops not used at the prison should go to food banks. While that crew is out working the other ones should have to actively participate in anger managment, or some type of therapy to help them get their heads screwed on straight before they get out. The ones that need it should be in drug rehab, or alcohol rehab. Once they completed that, if they have not finished school, then they go to school. If they have then they have to help tutor the other ones. When the first crew comes in they eat lunch and then it's their turn for therapy or school. Right now most of them work on building their bodies, watching TV, and things that are nonproductive. Once they complete those things then they have to start learning a profession. All of this would of course be adjusted by the type of crimes and times to be served, and those working on appeals with an attorney, would have to have time to do so.
We were talking about that same thing one night, my friends said I should try to get something like that put into effect. If my health wasn't so bad I would. Maybe one of you out there will.

What would you like to know that you are doing to criminals? Do you want to know that you are starving them, setting them free or something else. Society has a responsibility regarding law enforcement and the costs associated with it. If you are going to house them, then you have to feed them. The only two remaining options are execution or release.

Ohh yeah it sux. Plus knowing they get free education, better health care, 3 meals per day. I agree with you, when your in prison you should just sit there. Not have allthese luxuries that the rest of us would love to have or even die for.

well i can see your point i personally think throw all the bad guys in a pit and let them eat each other! but that's not humain
and some groups may get up set over that!

so i guess we could cut them loose and let them back into socity??? but what if they rape or kill someone else!

but yes a large island like alatrast would be great to have back! make them have there own commuinity! let them farm there own food and turn them all into non meat eaters!

but fyi the food they get in jail is like one step up from the trash! trust me it sucks!

You live in Texas.
You don't need schools, nobody goes anyway.
You don't need roads, you should stay home and clean your trailer.
You do produce hundreds of thousands of criminals, which is what we'd expect from a state that produced GW.
