I think he may be more likely to develop alcoholism or depression since they have been genetically linked. But people with no family history of either depression or alcoholism can develop them. My best friend's mother was an alcoholic when we were growing up, and my friend has never developed a problem. This is due to the fact she decided to never drink because she was afraid she might become out of control. My mother was depressed when i was growing up, and she was also on antidepressants. I have never developed any problems, and if i did i would see a therapist so i could live a good life. I think all of this comes down to the individual. This person could very well continue the cycle of his parents especially if he had no support or was isolated in some way from positive role models. On the other hand, I think this person could live a very successful and happy life. I guess you could look at it as the opposite of a person growing up in a very healthy stable environment and living an unhealthy life in adulthood. But i definitely believe that the more support, positive role models, and education he has, the more likely he will succeed and be happy.

It wouldn't be the same for every child going through that. Possibly the child could have a vulnerability to depression, personality disorders and alcoholism. However that is not always the case. The child could come out perfectly fine. All that depends on the child.

This child would probably end up having mental issues worse than the mom like Sybil did. i feel bad for this kid. get him into therapy and make sure he is okay. He is probably already suffering from a disorder. Umm how old is this kid??? if he is uder 10 there is still a chance of know disorder but has a great chance of developing one. If he is over 10 he probably is suffering from a disorder now. GET HELP FROM A THERAPIST!!!!

its been proven that the enviornment someone grows up in, affects them, usually in the same way. it depends on the child. if both the parents were there in his or her life, really cared, and did anything to help the child, then i think they would be fine. but for someone to grow up with people like that, who on top of THAT were not there, and not supportive, then it would rely on them to figure out what to do next. move out, talk to someone, find another solution. ect.
