In the U.S. so many young people like me, especially college students, do not have health insurance. we just don't go to the doctor when we need to because it costs 400+ dollars sometimes just to get some damn antibiotics for a sore throat etc...

I work as a rehab RN. It is so sad to see some of these people coming in, one for example was hit by a car and had a neck fracture, five fractures in her leg (she wasnt able to put any weight on it for 8 weeks), broke her arm, broken ribs, the whole works. Her insurance only paid for 1 1/2 weeks of rehab. After that, she had to leave. All the doctors agreed that she was not ready to be sent home yet, and they fought the insurance, but lost. She had to go home. So many people have insurance but it doesnt pay diddly spit. And for those who dont have insurance, they are really screwed if something happens. My husband had a heart attack a year ago, and because we didnt call the insurance company first to get the OK to go to the ER, they didnt want to pay for anything. We had to fight them, and it was long and nasty fight too, but they agreed to pay for 1/2 of his entire stay. That still left us with a bill of $22,000. I have no idea how we are going to pay for that. The drug companies rule this country, and no one has the balls to stand up to them. Its a giant money maker, especially for those who need meds to stay alive!! So sad...

Yeah, I'm a 23 year old college student and i lost my parents insurance when i turned 23 last christmas on my birthday. I had to get insurance through my school and they dont pay for anything! They dont pay for my sleep apnea stuff and when i had to go to the orthopaedic through my school, i ended up paying thousands of dollars for the x-rays they did on me.

The one thing you are going to have to learn is that you need to be extra careful with your health. Maybe some day you will get a nice job with good health benefits, but even if you do, you still need to watch out for yourself. ITs not just the cost of things with our medical system, its how quick doctors are to give us harmful prescription medications. Our country has a severe dependancy on prescription medications. These big pharmacuetical companies have everyone wrapped around their finger. They tell us that these drugs are safe, but they are killing us! Our immune systems are so f'd up its insane! The pharmacuetical companies have bought out just about every doctor there is anymore. They dont want to get to the bottom of your condition, they just want to give you a prescription drug and make money off of you.

When you get some good money, find a good natural medical doctor. The last thing they want to do is give you a prescription medication.

You are absolutely correct. If you are an American Citizen you have 3 choices.
1) denounce you citizenship come into the country as an illegal alien and you are entitle to all sorts of medical care and you will never be asked to pay for you medical and you get free education.
2) break a serious law and get sent to prison and you get free medical care and free education.
3) set up a small foreign country, declare war on the USA, ALLOW yourself to be defeated and then collect reparations for years in the billions of dollars, and you can then affort medical care.

Well what can I say...I'm glad I'm a vet and so have free medical care and Rx. As to what I think about this mess I wonder how we can spend $2 billion dollars a week on the war in Iraq but can't provide medical care for American citizens !!!

Our Helthcare is messed up. We are the greatest nation in the world but cant get free healthcare. I work in a hosp. It is sad. Then you have the illigals using the er as their personal phy with no intension of paying. Something really needs to be done.

Yes, it is a very money driven system, some alternatives are available.
The doctor I work with offers a membership plan for $495. a year, then all of your visits, urgent care visits, cell phone calls are free. He's in Lompoc, Calif. and he's great!

Yes. I'm on Y!A all the time and it scares me how many people need advice because they can't afford the Dr. I personally have health ins., and I use it regularly. If I didn't, I'd be screwed. I have hypothyroid and need blood tests every few months.

Seems like the old saying the rich go to the hospital, the poor go to the cemetary, is still true to this day.Something I heard along the way .
