PCTools products do get good reviews. The good thing is they have free versions of their products. They work great. Spyware Doctor from the Google pack is a must. I highly recommend it. I bought Webroots Spysweeper and spyware doctor finds stuff spysweeper does not. Having both is a perfect combo and I recommend running two anti-spyware products.

you can find a good free anti-spyware here . Download ,install and run it. The first time will take awhile as it sounds like you're really infected. After that run once a week or so.

These programs usually install themselves onto your PC without your permission.
They will show fake system alerts or fake security alerts to trick user to buy the Paid Version.
Ad-Aware, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware are the programs I currently use to eliminate popups, spyware, and adware from my computer. They are well-written, and do not add popups or ads themselves.

For spywares, you can install the latest Yahoo toolbar with anti spy button for your browser from http://downloads.yahoo.com/ . Once installed, click the button to scan and clean your computer for spywares.

For virus, install free AVG.
