You would be better off using painters tape rather than duct tape since it wont pull any paint off the walls.

get the putty made for posters that won't stain or peel the paint off when you take it down
one year i just wrapped them down the length of the stair bannister
one year the kids wrapped up the drum kit with lights - then left them on for a long time afterwards

Nail them on the wall, or if u dont want holes in your room, use duck tape.

USE THE NEW STICKY HOOKS THAT ARE MADE FOR PAINTED WALLS..MY DAUGHTER USED DUCT TAPE ON HER DORM ROOM AND IT DIDN'T HARM THE WALLS.

My friend did that to her room once. I don't know how she did it. She probably like taped them.

thumb tacks. they leave tiny holes & you wont notice them especially if its near the ceiling.
