I don't want to mention any names, but it seems some people have 'fallen' hard for Bush's bait & switch tactics. In response to another question re: why we were fighting in Iraq, this person conjured up Pearl Harbor. Now the only reason I can think of for the comparison is because that person feels we were attacked by Iraq in some way.

While our little Prez. Bushy certainly alluded to their being a link a number of times - a devious way to lie without lying - but when confronted with a direct question regarding a link has himself said time and again - THERE IS NO LINK between 9/11 & Iraq.

So I'm wondering - how many of you still think that there is?

Secretly, and without fingerprints, he could provide one of his hidden weapons to terrorists, or help them develop their own.
Before September the 11th, many in the world believed that Saddam Hussein could be contained. But chemical agents, lethal viruses and shadowy terrorist networks are not easily contained. Imagine those 19 hijackers with other weapons and other plans -- this time armed by Saddam Hussein. We will do everything in our power to make sure that that day never comes.

We've got plenty of capacity to do so. And I also mentioned the fact that there is a connection between al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein. The war on terror, Iraq is a part on the war on terror. "He has trained and financed al Qaeda-type organizations before, al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations." - President George Bush Discusses Iraq in National Press Conference, White House (3/6/2003)

"The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September the 11, 2001 -- and still goes on. That terrible morning, 19 evil men -- the shock troops of a hateful ideology -- gave America and the civilized world a glimpse of their ambitions. They imagined, in the words of one terrorist, that September the 11th would be the 'beginning of the end of America.' I've seen plenty of brain dead people in this forum who still think there is a link. Do you remember the day that Cheney was on Meet the Press alluding yet again to a link when the White House was releasing a statement the same day that there was NO connection whatsoever? Incredible what b.s. people will swallow.

Because many people associate Al Queda with 911 correctly, but the debate over the justification for war has become so polluted that many people can no longer distiguish the basic facts. Since many people are not overly politically minded they generally accept what they hear as fact. Once a myth is started in our culture it is very hard to dispel. Lastly, polling data can be skewed in any direction by how you ask the question, and as a general rule it is no longer to be trusted from either side of the political spectrum. NoSunHere: Your statement better describes Dan Quayle than George Bush. Quayle spelled Potato "Potatoe" which made him the butt of many jokes for a long time following.

From the answers you've gotten,it looks like people will
believe just about anything. They also probably believe Bush
had someone bomb the dam in New Orleans that flooded the
city. Bull Crap.
It was terrorists that flew planes into the WTC destroying
two buildings and 3000+ "innocent" citizens. They were following orders from AlQuida. AlQuida has people in Iraq.
Saddam had used products of WMD to murder his own
people. Thousands were uncovered in huge deep pits where
Saddam threw them after torturing and killing them so doing
away with him was a blessing to the rest of the good citizens
over there. Bush did them a big big favor.
Now, when it was known that the UN was sending
Inspectors over there to look for WMD, they hurriedly loaded
the WMD they had onto passenger planes (to fool everyone
of course) and sent them to Syria (where they now are). So,
Iraq did indeed have WMD but of course the Inspectors
didn't find any when they got there eight months later (plenty
of time for the weapons to be moved). Other similar war
weapons were found there but not the biggie WMD as they
were hidden in Syria.
So, since the Inspectors did not find these WMD, everyone accepted that hook, line, and sinker and started
calling Bush and Cheney liars, warmongers, Hitlers, and
other rude and treasonous names.
I can't believe how Americans can turn on Americans
and believe the UN and enemies instead. Wake Up. Bush
is trying to fulfil his job as protector of Americans in America
and so far, it's working. (at least until the unAmericans tear
it all down).

Definately not me..you'd have to be a fool to believe that now. Bush did a great job in his speeches or Putting Saddam, Iraq and 9/11 within a couple of sentences of each other. But it does kill me that people still buy that crap.

Edit-Judging from Buttercup's response -they are alive and kicking and dumb as ever.
Here's a little lesson on the truth about WMD's that Bush hasn'
t admitted but you are free to look into if you want to know the truth. The weapons labs were built by the US when Iraq and us were allies against Iran. We gave him Bio and Chem weapons, that is how we know he had them However, Chemical weapons have a shelf life of three years and Bio weapons a shelf life of 6 months (that's why Flu vaccinations have to be made just before flu season-bio organizims die). So Saddam lacked the capacity to produce these on his own after 1995, which means He had no weaponizable agents after 1998-and your government knows this. Also, Saddam ruled a secular state, unlike Iran's Theocracy -and Al-Qaeda's ideology. therefore the two were incompatible. Its kind of like the difference between Capitalism and communism-they just don't mix. By the way-about Saddam killing his people, we have done a great job of that as well. 100,000 civilians to date. We went in to help the Shiite who were oppressed by the evil Sunni, but now we realize the Shiite (shia) are aligned with Iran and Al-qaeda so now we are killing the people we went in to help and helping the people we went in to kill (maybe Saddam had this figured out already?) We executed Saddam for killing 182 shiite terrorists that tried to kill him and overthrow his government, what would we do to a group that attempted to kill our president and overthrow our government? Then we also had to help the poor Kurds that Saddam was killing, but then Bush declared the Kurds(PKK) a terrorist organization and they are attacking our allie Turkey, so now we have to kill the Kurds that we went in to help. So what have we changed really? we are killing the same people that Saddam was, the terrorists.
Yes, bad people are bad people, but lets look at the facts and the truth.
The enclosed link shows it was all a lie...

There's still a 20-33% of the population which still believes Iraq had responsibility for the September 11 attacks, and it was much much higher when we invaded. people didn't know what it was about, which is disturbing

the highest percentages are for people who watch Fox News (about the same as primarily watching local morning news shows) and the lowest are for people with the Daily Show, Colbert Report, PBS, and newspapers!

if people read newspapers, things like this could be avoided

Some myths die hard. It amazes me that what you post is true, but keep it in perspective. Even in the 21st century some people believe in Darwin's theory of evolution, or that AIDS is every-ones disease, or that Joe McCarthy was a bad man, or that living a modern life will cause the planet to burn up, or that there is no difference between men and women, or that Communism can work. These things are frustrating but for God's sake our government schools have been taken over by the ignorant left and this is what you get

You're absolutely right! I could swear that a large number of people have very short memories, because despite the fact that it was Osama bin Laden (not Saddam Hussein) who was responsible for the 9/11 attacks, people all but forgot about bin Laden and fell for the WMDs story hook, line, and sinker. And despite the fact that Bush and Cheney FINALLY admitted shortly before the 2004 election that no WMDs had been found in Iraq, there are still some people who think that Bush & Co. are on the side of the angels!

There are probably 10 times as many people who think 9/11was an inside job. those are the jokers I would be worried about.

I would also be worried about the people who get their info about the conservative mind set and president Bush from far left nuts and their respective web sites.

Iraq was in violation of international law period. Did Saddam have anything to do with 9/11, odds are no. if yes then very indirectly. Its only the people on either extreme who use that argument and I pity them both.

By the way, I like how you prove liberals are the "loving, caring and tolerant" side of politics.

People don't know what the f*** is going on. I wish that most people would read something about history and the newspapers before they open their mouths.

I know that everyone has a right to their opinion... I just wished that there were more educated opinions out there instead of wild generalizations about the world.
