im currently going to a university college and am thinking of quitting and going to community college for those classes it would be cheaper. Right now im not sure my scholorship will even allow me to take the emt basics since its 6 credits for the lab and another for the lecture and my scholorship i think makes me take the core classes i need for what ever major i pick. anyways should i just go and get my emt licensed and eventually or go thru the university? if i stay in university i will study more than the emt but it will take longer. also if i go to community can i do it with out using college transcript since i think it will be pointless.

i tried to find grants and other ways to pay for my emt, but nothing was offered for that course.. i didnt need a college transcript to take the course, just had to have my high school diploma... but personally, if i had a scholorship, i would stick to that first, because with a bachlors or associates degree, you would make more in the emt field... also, when your back finally goes out, it will make you more qualified for jobs in ems that does not require bending and lifting!!

If you go to the CC and become an EMT-P with national registry (about 2 years training) then you can become a field paramedic.

If you complete a bachelor's degree AND you get national registry EMT-P then you can advance to administration and management of EMS.

The best route would be to do both but to go ahead and get the EMT-B now (while you're working on your bachelor's) and get some experience as a volunteer EMT. Many places allow EMTs who are working or volunteer to go through to EMT-P fully funded by the department or the state.

Also know that there are some loan forgiveness programs for EMTs and Paramedics. It's possible to have some forms of student loan completely forgiven in this field.

I say join the military and let them give you the training and pay for your school at the same time.
