My son (23) and his girlfriend (21) bought a timeshare together back in August 2007 while they were on vacation. They were talked into buying it, you know all the sweet promises. It has something to do with points.
Well, they are broke up now - still friends...but they want to get out from under the timeshare.
How do they sell it? Where can they sell it? Can someone sell it for them?
I need names, addresses, websites, etc...
We live in Waco, Texas.

They are willing to take a loss, no matter how big. They just want nothing to do with it anymore. On hindsight, they now realize they should have never bought it in the first place, especially since neither know anything about investing and things like this....

Well since he didn't do proper research to buy it, he needs to do proper research to sell it. I made a successful sale of my Mystic Dunes timeshare (Orlando)

Here is the research I did before choosing a company:
I used Google.com and typed in MANY key word BUYER terms (buyer terms like "buy timeshare" "buy (resort name) timeshare") to find the company that actual buyers would most likely find first. I wrote down the company url's and did the following research on the companies I found:

1. I checked the BBB report on the company
2. I made them provide traffic and offer reports
3. I acted like a buyer on search engines and only inquired with easy to find, top ranked companies
4. I searched online for complaints about the company.

All this took me a couple hours (the final decision took days!)
I also posted on free sites at the same time and recommend you do the same as well.

Good luck. There are so many timeshares for sale that the market is slumped. Sorry to tell you that they'll probably have to take a loss on the resale. That's especially true when it's a recent purchase.
But, there are sites that specialize in resales. Just put "timeshare" into your search and see how many come up.

To be honest, your son shouldn't have bought the time share.

If it took an aggressive sales pitch from an organized company to sell it in the first place, it means there isn't much of a demand for it on the open market.

Especially in the current economic situation, I doubt they can find a buyer without drastically cutting the price.

To resale or rent a timeshare is a hard task, the basic rule is not to pay money up-front, don’t be another victim of a scam. There are some free classified adds where you can post it and get some results:

there are outfits that advertise this service.

your son and his ex-gf are about to get a rude awakening -- timeshares almost never sell for anywhere near what they've paid (promised to pay) ... 40% of that total is doing well.

***
the saleswoman/man who got them and his/her bosses, plus the company building the project, all need to get paid. 3rd party buyers don't need such a profit and won't pay for it.
