I believe the majority of Americans only respond to knee-jerk "headline grabbers" from either side of the political forum.
Many like to paint themselves as flag-waving uber patriots who believe that it's better to, quite literally, shoot first and ask questions later and slavishly follow a party line.
Others have a more liberal leaning (although really in comparison to what liberalism actually means in other countries, US liberalism is only watered down conservatism in some areas) but many prefer to claim themselves as moderates since they have no desire to be branded anti-american or traitors by the former group. Therefore I think there are more liberals than actually get represented. The conservatives then usually ask why was Bush voted in for a second term and the answer being that the US has never voted out a "war time" President, no matter how absurd a war it is.

In terms of the direction the US should proceed I hope that whomever is elected next manages to unite the country again rather than polarising it further and I would rather see it's head pulled from the sand than pulled to the left or the right. The US needs to become an internationally respected figure once more, rather than the universal joke it has become.

I believe the majority of Americans are Conservative. A __true conservative wants lower taxes, fairer taxation, less crime, no illegal benefits, close the borders, defend our selves and Christianity.
I would like to see America go in a positive direction with a positive President. We have the best of the best in the World and we need to stand up and demand our leadership to hear our wants and needs. Demand that the politicians tighten their belts. Demand they cut spending. People need to get out and vote rather than sit at home saying it's all going to hell in a hand basket.
Last week we had an election with like 16 Props to vote on that wanted more money (BONDS) they put on their signs (Will Not Raise Taxes) well where do you think they are going to get the money. The State doesn't make any money.
We the TAXPAYERS pay for everything. Anyway all the bonds passed because there was not much voter turn out. Anyone associated with the bond voted for it and there was no opposition. Now our Taxes will increase and people who are not even born yet will be paying for all these extremely high allocations of funds. People have to get involved and get educated rather than sit back and *****. DO SOMETHING!!!

To everyone standing to the far right, everyone else looks liberal. To everyone standing to the far left, everyone else looks staunchly conservative. Most Americans are somewhere in the moderate belief-set, holding many opinions that could belong anywhere on the political spectrum but not classifiable in any discreet philosophy. I would like to see the government have less control over personal lives and lifestyles, and more control over fictitious entities. I would like to see more local community control over necessities, and leave luxuries and such in the realm of the "free market".

I think it really depends on which part of the country you are in. Like the East or West Coasts. They tend to be fairly liberal with some being more moderate then liberal, while the Mid Western/ Central States tend to be more conservative in their beliefs. Frankly though, I would like to see the US move to a more conservative form then liberal.

because of the fact the liberals have the media. Even television shows are commonly liberal. virtually completely. So liberals see liberals because of the fact the norm and all and sundry who thinks in yet in any different case might desire to be the weird and wonderful one. That became an extremely older poll. i ask your self what the main present day poll says. I additionally ask your self approximately specific themes. so a techniques as my bview as to how the government ought to be run, i'm socailly average to liberal, and fiscally conservative. (small government over all.) i'm inquisitive approximately what proportion human beings think of like me.

Moderates, I would like America to be moderately conservative right leaning. Smaller government with less interference in our lives. With very few social programs that would help those truly in need, disabled and elderly. I would like to see social security personalized.
The government otherwise to care for necessities. Be more focused on national security, safety issues and foreign policy, etc.
Let individuals be individuals instead of grouping people. Let us have initiatives instead of handing freebies out that are not at all free.

Moderate leaning conservative, or even conservative. There conservatives on both sides.

I would like to see America get back to some good family values. I would like responsible leadership in Washington. I would like for people to stand up against those who would destroy America to achieve their own political goals (left or right). I would like to see citizens take more responsibility for their actions. I would love to see the courts unclogged from all the frivolous get rich quick crap. And last but not least I would love to see the Federal Government get back to basics and give the states their power back!
