One of my close friends is in a bind.
His roommate - who has been a flake for the past few months w/ rent and bills - just happened to be arrested the day before rent was due.

Now my friend cannot get a hold of "Jack" and is forced to break his lease and move b/c he cannot afford the rent by himself.

Is there a way to see if someone was arrested or what ? We all think he's lying b/c he just happened to take his computer and some clothes with him the week before and wasn't in contact w/ my friend for 4 days prior. We know what he was 'charged' with and we live in the bay area, Calif.

Any help would be great b/c Jack is now in default of his lease agreement (which screws my friend) and owes my friend some money (which he could use to cover the deposit on a new place). Thanks !

It matters b/c if he's lying why should my friend have a bad recommendation while he gets off scott free from violating his rental agreement. Plus, if he was lying, then my friend will sell whatever is left in his room since he abandoned it - but if not, then he has to figure out what to do with it.

It matters quite a lot actually - so if you have no answer - do me a favor and don't answer.

I'm not sure however I'm not sure why it matters here. Are your going to let the guy off the hook because he committed a criminal act? "Oh, you don't owe me rent cause you got caught robbing that store..."

Your close friend should see if he can borrow the money to pay the rent and get a new room mate. If he bails the landlord will sue both of them and he will loose a lot more.

Every courthouse should have a public access computer. Just input his name and you should be able to get an actual date of an arrest, should one have been made.

try the court news in your local paper or the paper in the area in which this person lives, most sites want you to pay for any type of info like that

I'm pretty sure you can. I know in Maryland we have a case search to search through cases and stuff. Just search in google " case search" and it should pop up if you have one.

Good luck.
