I'm pretty sure it's normal, your body is just adapting to your pregnancy. It probably goes along with the morning sickness stuff, so no need to really worry about it. If it keeps occurring after a couple of months, then I would probably see your doctor. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Give your doctor a call if it's happening more than 3 times a day, it can cause dehydration. You might be able to take some Imodium but you need to ask your doctor. It this has been going on for a while you might try taking a different prenatal vitamin or it can be hormonal(I had that happen during the first trimester, it sucked). Drink plenty of water and eat small frequent meals. Foods like bananas, apple sauce, and rice might help get things back to normal also.

I had the same problem when I was pregnant. You should if you haven't yet go to the doctor or atleast call him/her so they are aware of your troubles and can get it documented. I was told to take 1 ib p and 1 Mylanta every 6 to 8 hours and to stay off my feet as much as possilbe for a few days. It didn't help right away but it did help it by the next day. I would put a warm water bottle on your stomach if you can stand it. Roll it up and down on your stomach. It sounds goofy but it really did help me through this and other little pains throughout the preg. It relaxes the muscles too. Lots of luck and hugs to you. Hope this helps you and/or you get better soon. Congrats on the preg too. :)

Most often, diarrhea in pregnancy is a result of the changing hormone levels, predominantly increased levels of progesterone. However, it is not a good idea to characterize this symptom as normal until other things have been ruled out.

Malaria and other tropical parasitic diseases would be an unlikely cause if you have not been traveling outside the U.S.

Salmonella typhi used to be a problem before the advent of antibiotics. Non-typhoid salmonella can cause transplacental infection of a fetus; the maternal symptoms generally would be diarrhea with cramping, fever and abdominal pain -- gastroenteritis symptoms. Salmonella can be cultured from stool.

HELLP syndrome can cause varied symptomatology. Early symptoms/signs include:

weakness and fatigue
nausea and vomiting
right upper quadrant and/or epigastric pain
headache
changes in vision
increased tendency to bleed from minor trauma,
jaundice
diarrhea, and
shoulder or neck pain.
This would most likely occur in the second and third trimesters and might be associated with elevated blood pressure, swelling and protein in the urine.

Giardia lamblia is also a frequent cause of diarrhea. Although water remains the most common mode of transmission of Giardia, there has been an increase in the number of person-to-person cases, especially related to children in day care, as well as an increase in food-borne cases. New antigen detection assays have improved the ability to diagnose Giardia in the stool.

If diarrhea continues, sigmoidoscopy can be done even during pregnancy. Conditions that can be diagnosed with this technique include reactivated or newly diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease, bleeding from internal hemorrhoids and other lesions in the colon.

Continued diarrhea is an indication for stool culture at the very least.

This is, of course, a concern because diarrhea causes weakness, dehydration and incomplete absorption of nutrients. If your obstetric care provider is not a help with this, perhaps an internist could provide a second opinion.

I wish you well and hope this resolves.

If it's just been a day or two it's probably viral and will run it's course. If it goes on longer than that it should be checked out.

How long have you been taking your Pre-natal vitamins? Sometimes the filler ingredients in medications can affect people in unusual ways.

Drink lots of clear liquids and take it easy. Call your doctor's office for advice.

You might have a little virus on top of being pregnant. The runs usually arent part of early pregnancy- but each person is different.

I actually got the runs before I knew I was pregnant.

Cut down on the fruit juice, eat more fiber, and drink water. If it goes on more than a few days call your doctor.

Even the vitamins could be doing this to you. Call your doctor. They are used to getting a zillion questions like this and they can put your mind at ease. Always call if you have any health concerns while you're pregnant.

I know Amrit S was rude and sarcastic but it was an answer I you'll hear a lot for the coming months. Lol! If that one doesn't satisfy you try "ask your doctor". Good luck to you! you can also ask your pharmicist or get a drug reference book to look up the pregnancy catergory to any over the counter drugs you have.

Ooohh, hormones do terrible things to your body at the beginning of pregnancy. :(

Talk to your doctor as soon as you can, you don't want to be losing too many nutrients this early in the game, there's a lot of important developement going on right now.

Good luck, it'll get better!

To stop diarrehea, stick to the BRATs diet. It's bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. Also make sure you stay hydrated with some Pedialite or Gatorade, or alot of water. If that doesn't help in a day or two, call your Dr.!
