I GUESS IT IS THE SPIRIT OF THE FAMILY AND THE HOLIDAY. MY MOM LOVED CHRISTMAS AND FAMILY. I AM 44 YRS OLD AND MY MOM DIED 4 YRS AGO. I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO HAVE MY MOM HEALTHY AND SPENDING TIME WITH HER EVERYDAY, BUT ESPEICALLY CHRISTMAS.

The Spirit of Christmas is in your heart. Make your own Christmas tradition if you plan to be gone for the Hoilday. Maybe a small get together or open house to include your family and friends might be something you could do before you leave to New York. Keep it simple. Don't let the Spirit of Christmas turn into a money racket for you. Kids do not necessarily make Christmas, but the act of giving and sharing from your heart does. Good luck and Happy Hoildays.

The spirit of the holiday season should be in your heart and the closeness of the family will always be there. It's difficult to be spending Christmas proper with the ones you love, but the holiday season covers the days between Thanksgiving and New Years. I always try to set aside time for those I care about prior to Christmas with a small gathering. This is very helpful since I may not get to see them until after the New Year. That spirit of the holiday leads up to the big day where I don't feel bad.

Alot of people wants to do a Christmas Day marathon of nothing but running to every branch of their family tree and in the end, they are worn out.

You should do what feels best for you. We always get together, but we get along, more or less.

It is harder to maintain the Christmas spirit when there aren't any little kids around. Fortunately, I tend to be somewhat of a little kid myself (at 44) during Christmas, so it's a little easier. Go to New York, soak up the sites, see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, etc. Some of the magic may still be there.

i'm sorry the spirit of christmas doesn't mean much to you right now- hopefully that will change!!! for me, christmas is all about spending time with family (and baking lots of goodies)...and gues what- your fiancee IS your family!! it's your decision and it's not like you are making a committment to spend every christmas in new york...i understand them being a little upset b/c of course they want to see you, but trying something a little different now and then never hurt anyone :)
christmas in new york is beautiful and exciting- there is so much to do and see....
have fun!!!!

Go and enjoy yourselfs! When you get kids yes it will be different and much harder to travel.Although I am always home(my home) for Christmas I love the idea of being somewhere,no cooking,no fussing, just whatever. Its not happeneing but for you yes,.Just remember to wish all a Merry Christmas and take some pictures for all to enjoy.!Merry Christmas.

You should spend Christmas with the people you love.

It doesn't matter whether you are in your house or in the lit up city of new york, as long as you are with your family(your fiancee), then that's the spirit of christmas.

It depends on whether or not you get on with the family. If you're not feeling the spirit, then go where the spirit moves you, and if it's to New york, then so be it. Just bribe the others and ask them what they want from over there

Go and enjoy yourselves. I think the whole spending Xmas with families is overrated. Think of the arguments that you will miss whilst you are enjoying yourselves in New York. Your time will come when you have your own kids and want to spend Xmas together as a family. P.S. any space in your suitcase for a small one?!!!!

Christmas is a nice time to spend with family...but spending it in New York sounds amazing, and if it's just you two then i don't think your family have any reason to be upset about it.
