In 1066, in England there were two major battles the battle of Stamford bridge where the Saxon army fought the invading Danes. Then the Saxons force marched south to face the invading Normans who'd landed at Pevensy on the south coast of England. The two armies faced off at Senlac hill, near Hastings (which the battle was named after). The battle was hard fought and there was little to separate the two armies, the Saxons were in a superior defensive position, however the Normans were fresher not having fought two battles in rapid succession. What decided the battle was the death of King Harald, legend has it (based upon the depiction on the Bayeux tapestry) that Harald recived a wound above the eye from an arrow. However it's more likley that he was seperated from his bodyguard and caught by a group of Normans.

There was no army in 1066. It was a graduation party, but it sounded like an army to the couple in 1068.
