What is needed to install carpet if we rent the equipment? Is this a good job to DIY or is it usually better to hire someone?

Hi Kaitlyn,
I, personally, have found this one is better left to the pros. I have rented the stretchers, etc. and done it myself but it never turned out as good as the pros for some reason. You may be able to do most of the work yourself, i.e. pull up the old carpet (if there is any), put down the padding, and put down the tack strips and find someone to just come in and lay it. Probably wouldn't be too hard to find someone to do that.
Good luck

Carpet stretching and tack strips aside, the thing about professional installers that amazes me is their ability to make perfect carpet cuts. Mess this one up (cut it too short or cut an angle wrong) and you'll be looking at getting a whole new piece of carpet. When you buy carpet, the price shown usually includes pad and installation. Leave that task to the pros.

Have them come out and measure, too. They know exactly how wide the carpet rolls are and exactly how much overage they'll need to do the job right. And, if they mess it up, it's their responsibility to fix it.

definite, ring your installer, and get it fastened.. Its and straightforward interest pulling the carpet off the tack strip (smoothedge).. Filling interior the poorly decrease rubber underlay with a clean piece, by way of including to whats already down, then restretching the carpet to the tile returned.. user-friendly, their boy ought to do it.. As for tack strip coming interior the process the carpet, it is going to all matter on carpet quaility.. With low-fee carpet, that doesnt have a lot pile ounce, the tacks will definatley come by way of.. What I actual have carried out till now's, run a grinder over the tacks to shorten them, then ive resharpened the tacks so they'll nonetheless carry the carpet.. Its a bad and time eating activity, yet while i became laying it, thats what identity do.. Hammering down your tacks is a cowboy answer, and could evently bring about carpet pulling away out of your tile, by means of fact the countless tacks will stay held to the carpet and others would be flatened off into your tack strip.. desire this enables..

Usually you will want to hire this type of work to be done. With the proper stretching, seaming and cutting of the carpet, it really does take a pro to do this. I wont even go into wrapping stairs. If you choose to do it yourself you ll need to rent a complete carpet kit, and a power stretcher. Rental costs vary, but you could expect to pay around 150.00 a day for it all. To have a pro install it should be somewhere around 4.50 to 6.50 a square yard to install.

I would have to say depending on the size of the room you could tackle the job your self. you should be able to research how to lay carpet on the computer or you can ask your home improvement store, ask what tools should i rent , sometimes you can get a real good deal at home improvement stores because they deal with a lot of contractors looking for side jobs(extra money off the clock)
