There are two school of thought on this one. Some people think negatively so that when bad things happen, they are not surprised and can therefore handle it better. People that think positively do so because they choose to lead a healthier lifestyle, but then can be totally side-swiped when bad things happen. My opinion, is that we should think positively to the point that we are healthy, but stay cautious enough to deal with life.

I think of positive and negative as two sides of the same coin.

Positive and negitave are just concepts based on our perception of our experience of life. It's not based on our actual experience of life. It's based on our perception of our experience. If you think positively like, "I want a $100K per year job", you'll probably end up in one. But if you think negatively as in "I don't want to have a job that pays a measly $100K per year," you'll probably still end up having that same job.

So the results you get is really dependent on what you focus on, not whether you think of them positively or negatively.

Whether we think positively of negatively, we tend to get trapped by our thoughts, until we realize that what we think are just our thoughts. Once you've come into this realization, you can choose whether to think positively or negatively. In fact you can do without the label, and just think. When you have a choice, then whether you think positively or negatively, you can have the benefits you want.

If you think negatively about EVERYTHING regardless of the situation, nothing is going to make you happy. Thinking positively because your life is so good will cause you to suffer ALOT by just one little problem.
Thinking positively about all things is the way to go.
