Thanksgiving was created by the Puritans when they came to America to celebrate the fact that the Indians helped them learn to survive here. So of course they showed their appreciation by taking their land and slaughtering them. The Christmas season has gotten longer and longer as the years pass. Just last week I went to the grocery store and they were already decorated. One radio station is playing Christmas music for 93 days. When my father was younger, the Christmas "season" didn't start until a few weeks before the actual day (December 25). For me, it's pretty much always started the weekend after Thanksgiving.

+ The Christmas Season +
For Catholics, the Christmas season starts on December 25, 2007 and lasts until the Epiphany of the Lord on January 6, 2008.
+ Advent +
Related, but not the Christmas season, is the season of Advent.
Advent is a time of preparation and reflection before Christmas. It is similar to but not as solemn as Lent is to Easter.
The word Advent derives from the Latin word meaning coming. The Lord is coming.
Advent looks back to the first coming of Christ at Bethlehem and looks to the future when Christ will come again.
Thus we are preparing not only for Christmas but also for Christ's Second Coming. This means that when he comes again, we will be awake and watchful. He will not find us asleep.
Advent starts four Sundays before Christmas. In 2007, Advent will start on December 2 and end on Christmas eve.
With love in Christ.

Christmas starts on Dec. 25 and ends on the feast of the Baptism of our Lord. The Baptism of our Lord is sometime in January. I think it is usually on a Sunday in January.
