During youth you can't. Literally everyone pegged my son to be a mama's boy. While he certainly is whipped when it comes to women, he puts his wife above me no matter what, which is the right way to be. He is very tuned into women, as a young tot and boy he waited on his grandma and me hand a foot and put our needs above his always. He was a bit whimpy also as a baby, but then became a soccor jock and then computer engineer- I truly never thought he would grow up and be able to fix anything (cars, house repairs etc,,), but he is actually macho, but whipped.

Well, my husband is (was) and I did not realize it until after we were married and I found out that he had never done laundry in his life, and he had never cleaned a bathroom either! ( We did not live together before we got married so I did not realize he was lacking in these areas) You can usually tell because they are "good boys" and live at home long after the usual 18 years. This is because they love living with their parents and Mom still does all the laundry and cooking! I actually ended up liking his Mom a lot, but it was annoying that he is always trying to kiss up to his parents. He never has learned how to clean or do anything around the house, so the only way I can stay married to him and not go through the roof all the time is by hiring a cleaning lady. He is a good family man and a good provider with a great job, so overall I cannot complain.

He's in his 30's, and probably lives at home. Mama does his laundry, and rolls his socks, in pairs, into neat little balls. Like a ghost, she puts them in his dresser drawer. Nobody would have guessed she was even there.

Question seems kinda sexist...

Unless you also think there's something wrong with being a 'daddy's boy'.

But the latter term doesn't seem to carry the stigma of the former.

Why is that?

If he lives in his parents' basement, is un- or underemployed, uneducated and likes trolling around feminist blogs and forums, he's a mama's boy.

If he consults his mother beofre you when doing something or if you two decide something and his mother disagrees so then he changes his mind. Basically if he still listens to her and can't or won't do things for himself....From personal experience run away for this as you will never be what his mother wants for him!
