A friend asked if I could find anything on an asteroid heading for earth & a laser that supposedly is in space that will eliminate the asteroid before it hits earth. Is there any such thing, or is he reading too many sci-fi books?

In the next few days this one is going to be coming very close to Earth, so I would suggest that everyone panic.

DO NOT BELIEVE the scientists who use mathematics and exact trajectory measurements to calculate the orbit and say "nothing will happen." They are all part of the same conspiracy that generated the "fake" moon landings!!!!!!

You know that's gotta be right! er, right?

There are no *known* asteroids heading for an Earth impact. That does not mean that there aren't any that we haven't spotted yet. In 2002 an asteroid some 80 meters in diameter passed within 120,000 kilometers of Earth. That's closer than the moon is to us. If it had impacted it would have devastated about 2,000 square kilometers which is equal to the Tunguska event in Siberia about 100 years ago. What's scary about this near miss is that we didn't know the asteroid was even in our vicinity until 3 DAYS AFTER IT WENT BY.

There are no lasers or any other kind of device(s) in space designed to protect us from asteroids.

there is likewise slated to extraordinarily much hit earth in under 6 years, will it ensue? in all probability no longer, lots of close to impacts ensue. as to the extremely question, i'm no longer worried. all of us dies and if it relatively is on the hands of an asteroid what am i able to do approximately it? no reason to be nerve-racking. **** occurs because it have been lol. the thiestic bit? regardless of if i assumed in christ i could say no. the rapture would not precisely coincided with the apocalypse. i'm a pagan, i've got self belief that if the international ends, i die. and that i pass directly to a diverse form of existence in some style of paradise alongside the gods and goddesses

Hi. There are many asteroids that will hit the Earth eventually. We have no good way to stop them and are looking at ways to change their orbits. Almost all of these objects remain unknown to us.

There are earth crossing asteroids. I just read that next year one will pass inside our communication satellite's orbit.

We have nothing currently that will stop one on a collision course, and if we did it would probably not be a laser.

Astreroids are usually detected in photographs of the sky (via a telescope) by the fact they move across the line of sight, leaving a streak rather than a spot. If they move across the line of sight, they are not going to hit Earth; if they are heading straight for Earth, they leave no streak and attract no notice.

We don't have the ability to deflect the asteroids which will hit Earth.

Eventually a large one will, but who knows when.
No laser, atleast I haven't heard of one. BUT, the government is sneaky so...
There are reports of congress asking NASA to step up it's serach for NEOs (Near Earth Objects).
