My sister has PCOS. She's not yet planning to have a child, but I do know a bit about what it means.

Not all women with PCOS are infertile due to their condition, and of those who are many can be treated and become fertile. There's a good chance that you can still get pregnant, so don't hesitate to try. However, this is definitely something you should discuss with your doctor. Women with PCOS are at a much greater risk to develop complications that could endanger the mother or the baby. Miscarriages occur very frequently. Your doctor may want to know that you plan to try to conceive.

PCOS is very common. It affects about 10% of women, so I am sure there are many out there who have been through what you are going through. You might find the support you need in an online support group, or you could contact your local hospital and ask if they're aware of any local groups.

Good luck. :)

I have this - it's a more involved condition than many think, and many general doctors don't understand it. You can get pregnant (I have two little boys to prove it). I see a specialist. I had to lose 20 pounds - if you are heavier than you should be, estrogen stores in fat and screws up your periods, and makes it hard to get pregnant. Many women get pregnant just by being a normal weight again...Also, I had to take metformin while ttc (which is usually for diabetics) but can PCOS can mess with your sugar regulation, making it hard to get pregnant. I also took clomid (100 mg for 5 days). the hard part is getting pregnant, the pregnancies are usually normal. You should do a lot of research on the net, books, etc. The condition also increases your risk of diabetes and heart attacks.

The correct abbreviation is PCOS and its also called Stein-Leventhal syndrome. Women with PCOS have many small cysts on their ovaries and have hormone imbalances and do not ovulate regularly. PSOC affects 5% to 10% of women. Symptoms are Irregular menstrual periods, chronic pelvic pain, excessive hair growth, acne and weight gain. Solutions/Success Rate: Ovulation-stimulating drugs such as clomiphene, follicle-stimulating hormones, and IVF are the answer to PCOS. 70% who take fertility drugs ovulate and of those, half go on to conceive within six to nine months.
