It is fortunate that, by fate, we were born in a country at the height of its power, but unless we remain vigilant about our government and corporations, we'll end up like crappy Luxembourg!

"The richest country on earth", What does that mean? the poor are left to rot in the gutter, while the 1%ers have more money than they could ever spend.
For many years the people of the USA have had no say in what their politicians decide.
Fortunately Bush 2 has made it obvious to the majority of Americans how much they are being exploited, but have the people learned anything?
Will they treat the next presidency with equal skepticism? are they willing to demand a better deal?
Or will they continue to be played like a fiddle?
I don't think the people are ready yet, and they will have to suffer some more before they come to their senses.

It it weren't for Bush spending budget surplus in the billions and balanced budget left by Bill Clinton; if Bush didn't spend $300plus millions daily in Iraq; if gas and mortgage crises didn't exist under Bush; if Bush didn't neglect the Katrina victims; if Bush could have little more intellect, ad infinitum:
Then, USA would not only be the second richest country in the world but it would have the RESPECT it used to have from the rest of the world.
Bush's popularity 30%, Congree 25%

More like the most expensive country on earth. If you look at purchasing power parity, instead of artificially distorted exchange rates, the American economy is not as big compared to China or Europe as it used to be. If you look at wage 'growth' in those same terms, the lot of Americans is getting worse, while those in 'poor' countries are reaping huge gains.

GNP per capita is the most widely accepted index for a country's financial success.
As you think this is a ridiculous way to measure it can you explain a better way to accurately compare the wealth of every country

Perhaps we are not the richest country in the World, but I think that we still are the best. We really need to clean house regarding the politicians.

Amen, we all should be thankful. However, I think it a shame that Iraq is a war we can't win nor leave. The politicians are being untruthful and extravagant with their spending at the cost of middle America. President Bush approval rating is at 30 percent, and Congress at 25 percent. That tells you something. We all should keep them accountable.

We do live in the richest country in the world in terms of resources and it's a shame that instead of caring for our own country, we let another country influence our policies, our foreign spending and even the wars we fight. We can really use this money in our own country. We have schools, we have natural catastrophes, we have aging parents and grand parents. We're close to finding a cure for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's among other diseases. We need to pay attention to the American people and share our wealth with our OWN citizens for a change regardless of the political debts that our politicians have to pay for getting elected. We're really due for a president who's not in anyone's pocket.

Why can't we attend to our own people? When are we going to wake up and see what a few powerful and influential people are deciding for us. When are we going to stop fighting other people's wars for them. For what gain to us?

We're not the richest. Maybe if we didn't constantly wage war with others we would be. But war & recontruction is very expensive.
