I saw them on sale in Algeria, not called chip butties but chips in a bread roll

depends where you go in uk also.. some call it a chip cob or a chip bap i think butty is a yorkshire thing

It seems so - I'm not well traveled but Ive been all over Europe and to New York and when you put chips between 2 slices of bread you get odd looks

I have Aussie and Kiwi friends who eat them quite often. So, it's not a UK only thing....
