With all the recalls these days, there is a slow growing grumbling from parents who keep buying toys for their kids that they end up having to take away and toss (Honey, I'm sorry Santa gave you toys with Lead in them!). There's a growing movement to declare a China Free Christmas. Meaning, purchasing NOTHING made in China as a way to state that this is not acceptable and companies that sell toys need to take responisbility for oversight. If they won't their toys will not be purchased.

Is it possible to have a China Free Christmas? Do our kids really need more junky plastic toys for us to trip on? Can you do without for the adults too?

Before you read this please understand that I read the question and really do know what the REAL question is but I just couldn't resist.

I am certainly in favor of a China Free Christmas. I hate washing the nice China. I'm all for stoneware. I can put it in the dishwasher...

I'm also for a Silver Free Christmas, that way I can put the flatware in the dishwasher too!

The American made car you drive, or European, or Japanese, there is a 99% chance it has a lot of Chinese parts in it.

The Italian shoes you buy, were probably made in China under license. Same with the American made shoes. Or portions thereof.

The American made clothes you buy, the cloth probably comes from overseas.

Your computer, you are using right now, guaranteed, at the very least, has Chinese parts.

Your Maytag washing machine may say, made in the USA, but more then likely a lot of the internal parts came from China.

The list is endless.

As far as dangerous products, the Chinese have taken notice and cracking down heavily.

A China Free Christmas probably means no toys under the tree. Nearly everything is made there.

It is possible. Did some poking around on the internet with various search engines and was able to find quite a few places that sold only American made products, and many that sold both American and European made products.

I avoid imported products as often as possible. I've lost several jobs because the company moved off shore to some third-world dive where they could pay no taxes and slave wages--and there is NO oversight.

Mine is 13, so he doesn't want much in the way of toys anymore, but I am reading labels, & I won't get him, or anyone else, anything from China. It is a start anyway!

Anti-China/Anti-Walmart shopper.
I prefer to buy stuff that lasts, not stuff that I pay 70% of the price for, but have to replace twice as much.

I hear you. The Chinese have been stockpiling American dollars for years... now that the dollar is on the slide, they want to trade for Euro. The Chinese can stick it where the sun don't shine.
