I've noticed my upper back has kind of ached the past couple days. I wonder if it's because my belly has really popped this past week -- I actually look pregnant now! (I'm 26 weeks.) The extra weight is putting strain on my back maybe?

Yes, it does effect your back. My back hurts when it's that time of the month...Pregnancy is related to that sort of stuff in a way and it does effect different parts of your body, not just your stomach. Yes, the weight from the baby in your stomach is probably the main thing that's causing it. I would get a heating pad and heat that up in the microwave and put it where it hurts...It worked for me!! You can get them at Walmart. =) Congratulations on the baby....26 weeks is a real accomplishment!!!! Hope all turns out well.

This is actually quite common even though you rarely hear about it. It's caused by the hormone progesterone softening up your ligaments to prepare for delivery (all your joints and muscles loosen up, not just your hips and pelvic region). It's also due do weight increase, growth of the baby, etc. It's supposed to go away by 20 weeks but that's not to say that it won't go away earlier. Just like round ligament pains, it can start or stop at any point, but rarely ever goes past 20 weeks. 47% of women experience this, so just under half of all pregnant women, but I'm willing to guess it's not really talked about because it can always be attributed to something else, since during pregnancy, most back pain is heard of experienced in the middle to lower back. Congrats and good luck :o)

Oh wow , I am 26 weeks pregnant too. I would go to my doctor if I was you. On my 1st pregnancy one time I had strong upper back pain and chest pain and it was my lungs that were swollen... I kno w it sounds weird or crazy .. but they did a ct scan and I had to sign a release , stating that I would not sue the Diagnostic/Lab facility if any defects or abnormalities on my newborn due to the radiation of the ct scan or x rays. The cause of the pain: Stress they said. They couldn't find anything... probably true... but just go and check for the well beign of you and your child. Congrats... What are you having ? I am having a boy. I am due Feb 10. 2008 but I am having a C-Section on January 29 , Good Luck.

Check here a very effective Sciatica Natural Treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Sort of-it was more 'mid-back'. It was just below my shoulder blade, actually. I started right about where you are, and went all the way til' my due date, though it got better the last 2 weeks because I was on vacation from work. Heating pads, Tylenol, and those sticky heat patches that you buy at the store work pretty well. If it gets REALLY bad (which mine did) talk to your doctor. They may prescribe you something-it all depends on them.

Mine has been killing me more in my middle/upper back. I just started to really show too...I'm 23 weeks. Using an ice pack has really helped me...that and taking it easy with the lifting and things like that. Hope you feel better soon! Congratulations!!!

yes my back hurt everywhere. I think one thing had to do with it was i got HUGE on top as well, and i was never used to carrying that load around before. So my back hurt from it. Especially trying to find a bra that was comfortable and supportive was a pain.
