A particle, starting from point A in the drawing at a height h0 = 3.3 m, is projected down the curved runway. Upon leaving the runway at point B, the particle is traveling straight upward and reaches a height hf = 4.7 m above the floor before falling back down. Ignoring friction and air resistance, find the speed of the particle at point A.

If energy is conserved
Energy at point A must be equal to energy at the point in question
Pe1+Ke1= Pe2 +Ke2 where Ke2=0
m g h0 + (1/2)m V^2=m g hf or

g h0 + (1/2)V^2= g hf and

V=sqrt( 2g(hf - h0)
V=sqrt(2 x 9.81 (4.7 - 3.3))=
V=5.2m/s
