I have some FACTS Physical, Scientific, and obserable, for you.
First the facts :: For the formation - creation of petrolium / oil / natural gas / methane/ coal and the family of hydrocarbons, there must be a large amount of vegetive growth (plant life), temperate climate conditions, rain fall in abundance, certain types of bacteria, time, and the sealing of the surface / some compression.
With this in mind :: How come there is oil / petrolium / hydrocarbons, under the North Polar Ice Cap i.e. Prudhole Bay, under the middle east's desert (Iraq, Iran, Saude Arabia, etc.) West Texas, Wyoming, Colorado, Canada, Off Shore(both east and west coasts), Under the Gulf of Mexico, Under Siberia, Russia?????
Do you say that the earth / global warming is NOT a normal cyclic condition? Do you say that the earth has had a stable temperature, since it's formation 4.5 BILLION years ago,and
geologists established 70 years ago, that the earth was over 2,000 DEGREES F*?400,000 years ago, USA was ice

I got this question into this category, by accident, but to the first few responders; I am 69+ years young, I do not waste my time watching sports, soap operas, etc. I study !!! I am retired, did so at 60, as a Senior Quality Control Inspector, Lockheed Martin, Atlas Rocket Program ( the rockets that place the satellites into orbit), I was, before retirement a Certified Nuclear Metrologist ( THE SCIENCE OF PRECISION MEASUREMENTS) per the US Federal Code 10 CFR 50, Criteria 12, and ANSI N. 45.2.6. Yes I have studied a bit of GEOLOGY, back 40 years ago, when the 'earth was going into an ice age' and gullible people were going 'nuts' trying to figure out how man could stop the earths temperature changing's.
TROLL ??? NOT EVEN HARDLY !!!!!
How about your education??? Qualifications to ask your type of question???

P, Correct . And the African plate moving northward against the European plate is what formed(for the most part) the Alps, and the African plate started out as part of the 'South American Contintal' plate. Amazing how much space it has moved, but then Billions of years is a pretty long time, even in geological(earth) time spans.
A Very Good Responce, and Point.

DICK W., YES, as a Quality Control Inspector, the 'wrestling with a pig' is one of our favorite sayings.
Yes, after awhile you begin to realise, "The Pig LOVES It" !!!!

As I stated above, this question was not intended for this category. It was suposed to go into the 'politics' category, and was to address several in that arena that believe that "Al Gore should become President in 2016, because 'He is saving the earth by telling every one that we are destroying it', and besides he should know, After all, He Was Vice-President"!!

Wow what a poorly made post.
69+ years you should have learned some tact in that time. With 9 years worth of study you might have even pick up some then.

While I agree with the intent of your post I would not align myself with you. Before you question my education I have a PhD, in Geology, Masters in Climatetology and working on a Masters in another field. Human activity is a factor in the warming of the earth but not the only one nor is it the major one.By a factor I mean that human activity releases gasses that can and do cause warming though a small amount compared to other things. We are doing more polluting than warming of the earth.

The earth is indeed getting warm than it was in the recent past. There earth was much warm druing the time of the Dinosuars than it is now. The true cause for the warm and cooling of the earth throughout its long history is not fully understood and I do not think it can be attributed to an singel factor but a combination of factors. Whether you or any one else wants to admit it the earth's temperature is indeed rasing. What is the cause is not fully understood, also it is a natural things as I have stated. I agree that the whole Al Gore and his book was just that.. a book and to make money he uses scare tactics.

Since we do not know th reasons its easy to point to things that are pollution causing as the reason for the warming. For the un-educated it is easy to see a truck belching black smoke and say SEE THERE IS THE CAUSE!!

While I agree that it is polution I can not say it is the only factor warming the earth.

Ranting is not fun for any one

Human induced global warming is a crock. Yes, the climate is warming. We are still recovering from the little ice age. Things are still not as warm as they were 1500 years ago. Ironically enough accurate climate records starting being preserved at the very coldest point in the last 5000 years.

Fact: it has been colder than it is now in human history.

Fact: it has been warmer than it is now in human history.

Fact: Humans do better in warm climates than in cold climates. We hear all the horror stories of heat related deaths. You don't hear the news on the cold related deaths in winter, because they are so common they aren't even news!

Ice caps are disappearing on Mars! Blame the SUV's!

This whole thing is a scam dreamed up to promote greater big government interference in the day to day affairs of the common man. There's nothing you can do abotu it, but somebody stands to gain a lot of money and power if you let them scare you.

Forgetting your obsession with Al Gore, global warming is supported by nearly every climatologist in the world. The IPCC report is a synthesis of opinion from over 2600 climatologists and scientists in related fields and its conclusion is that current climate warming trends are anthropogenic in nature. The two top scientific bodies in the US, the NAS and AAAS support anthropogenic global warming conclusions. This is not a conspiracy. Yes, climate has warmed and cooled in the past. Read some paleoclimatology research, though and find out that when climate has warmed it was caused by outgassing of CO2 by supervolcanic events. Now humans are releasing sequestered carbon by burning wood/coal/oil and contributing an increase of 2ppm of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. This mimics a natural supervolcanic event. Please also note that in our planet's paleohistory, supervolcanic events caused global warming cycles and were typically followed by mass extinction events.

I believe global warming is a sham, yes its warmer now us old ans can remember hot summers and cold winter The government does quite well in turning it into tax. I think that the sun is to blame all the planets in our solar system are getting hotter. But that said we do need to look after the Earth we are just passing though and should leave it as we found it the air was cleaner as well as the seas

During the Ordovician period (about 450 million years ago) North America lay along the equator. That is where the Arctic oil comes from.

PS Anyone who still believes in the existence of Atlantis knows nothing about geology.

Well, you seem to have fallen for the same trick they use every election year. The Great Diversion. One would think such an educated man would not be so easily diverted.

I would imagine that arguing with you would be a lot like wrestling in the mud with a pig. You can't win, and the pig enjoys it.

I won't answer your poorly disguised propaganda, but I have a few questions of my own.

Are you just an attention troll?

If you aren't, is this "blurb" a public opinion whack job you do for e.g. Exxon or one of their sock-puppets? How much do they pay?

And if you don't crave attention and are not even getting paid, do you actually derive joy from making a fool of yourself?

Just wondering because I can't find any more reasons why someone would write such trite nonsense. I hope you will find the time for an honest response. I really would like to know.

against your argument...
the movement of the plates of the crust kind of throws off the vegetation-where-ice-or-desert-is-now idea, they've moved a lot in the time that life has been on earth

i am on your side, but the argument is not a good one in my opinion

and Gore getting the nobel peace prize... bleugh

What is your question really?

While I agree with your point, I do not agree with the way you present it. Y!A frowns on rants. You're no better than the people who mistake politicians for scientists.

I have studied a bit of Geology, too. Would you like to see my degree?

I have said for years that we are still coming out of an ice age, We lost an entire continent because it is now underwater, Atlantis. Africa and South America were once joined and now are an ocean away.
