The Secretary of the Treasury is ranked higher than the Secretary of Education.
Based on the Presidential Succession Act, the cabinet is ranked in this order: Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Defense, Attorney General, Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of Labor, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Secretary of Transportation, Secretary of Energy, Secretary of Education, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Secretary of Homeland Security.

The Secretary of Treasury is not a post which relates solely to a particular policy area. The Secretary of Education solely deals with Education Policy, a very focused area and while it has a profound impact on the nation it does not have the same type of impact that the Secretary of Treasury does.
