Genesis with Peter Gabriel..."The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" is one of the most amazing albums of all-time.
Honorable mention to King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer....

hmmm...hard to say. I'm a big fan of Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Rush and the like. But my all time favorite band is Pink Floyd and they are mostly a prog rock band (depending on who you ask). So, I'll say Pink Floyd is my favorite.

Wow- proggers are out in force today! yeah!
My #1 prog band would have to be Yes. I'd say Rush, but their truly prog period was only about 5 or 6 years...back in the 70s.

Jethro Tull BQ loss of life (positioned up 1990) BQ2 steel - The Sound of Perseverance, Rock - darkish edge of the Moon @Dave ok: Agreed, i do no longer likely see Opeth being a loss of life steel band with the exception of their early artwork. sure they incorporate growls yet they continuously incorporate alot of unpolluted vocals and mushy sections and musically they have not got plenty blast beats or quickly tempos.
