Committing a crime earns people jail-time, fines and probation--why can't we take away peoples' citizenship and deport them? Make them think about what being an american is all about and how great we have it here.

If we kept living with the fear of being kicked out then we wouldn't have it so great, now would we?

We'd be every other country - living in fear of our cruel and powerful government. That's not what America is about, in fact that's what we ran from and created this country to fight.

One of the great things about being an American citizen is that everybody lives (or ought to live, anyway) under the rule of law. That means the punishment should fit the crime. Revoking someone's citizenship would be over-the-top, don't you think? as well as unconstitutional. Anyways, where would you deport a native-born American once you've revoked his citizenship? Antarctica? The moon? Sorry, fella, bad idea.

What country would we send them to and who would take them? Even recent immigres are not taken back by their homelands all the time, especially after they commit a crime. They have tried this though - the place was called Australia. All the criminals were sent there, even the political prizoners and the poor. They somehow did not end up loving the British for that, though. Funny thing that. So would you deport Paris Hilton? I would - her and Britney Spears. Send them to Mars to start sulking around a colony there. Otherwise who will carry the little dogs and who will flash their bits at photographers on Mars?

I think it would be sweet to deport illigal immigrants back to different countries. Like deport a mexican to south africa, or deport a chinese person to brazil. you know so not only would they be kicked out but they would have no idea how to get back to there original country. It would be great and i think it would scare alot of illegals away from coming here because they wouldnt get a free ticket home they would get a free ticket to the middle of no where with no way back. Suck that border jumpers

Heck man, We can't even deport the ones that are here illegally. Some felons lose their citizenship for being convicted of a crime.

If you're a native born citizen, then your citizenship cannot be revoked. (And if it was - what country would accept you?)

If you're naturalized, it can be revoked, and you deported back to your native country, for some serious crimes.

If you're an alien living in the US - legally OR illegally - and you commit a crime of "moral turpitude" (Theft, or other "dishonesty" crimes) you are to be deported.

There are crimes which citizenship could be lost.

Look at the back of a passport and find out.

Deport them to where. I don't think there are going to be many countries lining up to take our criminals.
