Bought an mp3 philips player today, conected to do sync, it looked fine, then i ''upgraded firmware'' as in was directed in the setup leaflet, the mp3 wrote ''upgrading firmware'' then my setup said i unplug it from the pc to complete, i did that, and then nothing, just blank and dead, the device is no longer recognised by windows

i tried to delete/reinstall usb drivers, reboot, nothing..

i connected the cable to another usb device, a card reader, and that works fine!

where is the problem? is it in windows or in the device, it doesnt appear to be in the cable:/

The device doesnt work either. There is a remedy process described in philips website for when device is ''dead'' but i cannot do it untill my device is recognised by windows. (because it is done with a program)

The "table" that stores information about USB devices is confused. When the device was updated, it no longer matches the information in Windows, so it can not see it.

Go to the Control Panel
Click on the System Icon
Click on the Hardware tab
Click on the Device Manager button

In the listing of installed devices, scroll down to the USB section
Click the + in front of the USB devices to expand it to show all the USB items
Right click on each item and uninstall. (That will clear all the USB information)
Reboot the PC and, since the drivers are still there, Windows will reinstall the USB ports with no information stored about the previously attached devices
Insert the USB device and it shouls now work
