Hello Aoife,
Of course books we read are a matter of personal taste, however I have only just finished reading 'Executionr Pierrepoint', an autobiography of the most prolific Official Executioner in Britain, appointed by the Home Office.
It is his story about his life as hangman and how seriously he took his duty.
Although he never divulges how many hangings he actually carried out, is a know fact that it numbered more than 600.
The story although a little macabre and quite harrowing, is an extremely interesting account of his life.
If you are interested in reading the book the details are:
Title: Executioner Pierrpoint
Author: Albert Pierrepoint (of course)
ISBN: 1-85882-061 8

I think the best book I have ever read was " And Quiet Flows The Don"this reading is really for the more grown ups than children. No it is not rude, or anything like that but, it is centred around the cossacks during the world war 11

The Alchemyst (The secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel)
By Michael Scott
A bit of fact, mostly fiction, throw in some mythology and magic, add a pair of suspicious twins,a vampire, some psychotic birds maybe a touch of necromancy and you get an interesting read, and best part is,even when you finish this book you have a sequel to wait for.
