What is didactic drama and why is it used?

define: Most medieval religious plays were didactic in that they instructed audiences about the Bible or morality.

not sure why it is used though sorry

didatic drama is drama which teaches

it is often used for agitation-propaganda to make the people take action against wrongs that the playwright believes exist.
