You turn 65, and you will automatically be enrolled in Part A and Part B. You'll have 63 days to enroll in a part D plan. If you don't enroll in a part D plan, you'll have to pay a penalty of 1% per month when you do enroll. Outside of that original 63 day window, you can only enroll between November 15 and December 31 of each year.

I don't believe there are any steps... you just automatically get it when you turn 65, even if you have other insurance. They will bill both.
