Can someone tell me why, when a woman is promiscuous, she's condemned and called a "s!ut," but when a man is promiscuous, he's praised and called a "player."

This double standard is unfair and offensive. I think that being promiscuous is wrong for both genders, but why are women singled out and stigmatized whereas men are actually praised for it? It makes no sense.

Because men have to work for it... women don't.

A man who gets a lot of sex has skills and had to work his butt off. vs a woman who just opened her legs and said "yes".

Women can get sex whenever they want it....Women can get sex whenever they want it....Women can get sex whenever they want it....for the last time... Women can get sex whenever they want it!

This double standard doesnt cross gender lines.

As far as I am aware men are only praised as you would call it "player" by other men.

Women are most accused of being s!uts by other women. Maybe because they are too insecure about themselves, but women seem to gossip and pick on eachother an awful lot. This "double standard" wont change until women stop being so caty.

First of all, the only people who see a "s!ut" as being a negative thing are other women and male religious puritans. Few of the remaining human beings give much of a damn about how many partners a woman had. They might ENVY her a bit if their numbers don't measure up, but that's about it.

The only thing a guy cares about are: integrity and non-rude behavior (unless the guy is forcing himself or is not taking the polite but clear signal that his advances are unwelcome, in which case feel free to go haywire).

Integrity=not messing with people's feelings, not leading on (especially for the purpose of free drinks, dates, gifts... if you seek material compensation become a sponsor-girl or a prostitute and be honest and up front about it), not cheating, etc.

Non-rude=not being cruel, not being manipulative, not treating men like scum.

A ***** is someone who fails at any of these two criteria. If you satisfy the above two criteria (which really any decent guy would also impose on himself), feel free to have all the sex you want, with whoever, and as long as you are dilligent about your sexual health (STD protection, birth control) as far as guys are concerned it's A-OK.

Well because it seems to the majority of the populace that women are the weak ones who seek out the males (degrading their status), while it seems like the males accept them but not because they want it, only becuase they can. Its a false assumption and its inadvertedly reinforced by women themselves when they talk about men being the dominent ones in the relation and being the ones who accept them (this isn't always true, as some females are vicious lionesses that can tear apart males any day).

I'd like to point out that married men are subject to the same taboos of promiscuity (just look at Viagra commercials reassuring men that taking the med doesn't mean they're not faithful to their wife).

well to start with men cant get PG. that is one reson. 2nd when a man is looking for a wife the 1st thing he looks for is a women that he can trust and if he finds that a women is the running around type, then hes going to run the other way.
this goes way back. its seems to have started around w w 2. men were over seas haveing sex with all kids of diffrent women and when the women back home found out they started playing around themselves. so the men did not like it and put them down for it.

Mike T., you're making men sound like animals. Women can't actually get sex whenever they want it. That's because while most men might feel the desire for sex, they know better than to do it and control themselves. My husband isn't running around and trying to have sex with every woman he lays eyes on. He actually finds it rather insulting when other people assume he is.

Depends of whom are the condemners and praisers.
If men,it is partially so.It is the kind of jealous men who would like to do samewise.
If it is women, you will hear they condemn both. But envy the slutt and would like to nail themselves the Casanova, secretly of course.
It is only a Public attitude of tinkered Morality.
Desires have no "humane" boundaries, they are in fact human passions.

I agree. I believe both deserve to be criticized. unfortunately, the present trend seems rather to be glamorizing women's promiscuity as well instead of condemning men's more.

Nobody says anything about me. It is usually women calling eachother "sluts" and men dubbing the cheater a "player", just they make it sound so much better to be a player.
