Because most corporations are "profit driven," unless they feel that their call centers are a net asset to the bottom line, they won't pay a decent salary.
If they pay people little more than minimum wage to work in high-stress positions dealing with ignorant, uneducated customers who are rude, abusive, and demanding, they get what they pay for.
The only solution is to stop doing business with companies that you feel treat you poorly, and tell your friends about the experience.
Also, if you ever feel you have not been properly dealt with, ask to speak to a "Manager." Most "call centers" record ALL calls, so you can ask the manager to review the call and deal with the unhelpful employee.
Of course, asking to speak with a manager now and then to compliment a phone support person when they are polite, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful would be a good thing too!

If you are looking for a job, you have to ask for the right person. You need to find out who the HR (Human Resources) person is and ask for them by name. You can usually find this information out from the operator who answers the phone. In fact, before you get transferred, talk to the operator and find out if the HR person is the best person for what you are looking for. If they transfer you to "Customer Service", you will be put into the "ring of hell" as you get transferred from person to person. Be insistent when you talk to an operator. They will want to transfer you because they have to keep answering phones, but if you get transferred to Customer Service, you may not find what you are looking for at all.
Hope this helps.

Part of my job deals with calling large corps. I can't believe how many times I get transferred around just to end up at the orginal number. I think some corps. are too big to care.

Because you keep coming back.
You are just like those married women beaten by their husbands but they don't leave him.
In the end, the woman always is beaten to death or she is sentenced to life in prison for murder.
Divorce from your Corporation today!

Because they don't care to spend the money on support. They would rather spend it on sales. They already have your money.
