Hmmmm. When it comes to Stephen King, so many books, and definately too little time.
Well. If you woudl rather read a thinner book than a thicker one, I would recommending starting the Dark Tower series, the first book, (The Gunslinger), has this intriguing plot line that will make you never want to put the book down. Its about 275-300 pages depeneding on the version you have. Hey, if you end up liking that, you'lll probably like the other books that he has in that series.
If you would rather read a larger one, I would definately recommend The Stand (like many other people have already recommended). It will blow your mind away. Be prepared for never-ending drama and horror. If you've ever been interested in what would happen if 99.9% of the worlds population dissapeared...this is exactly the book for you.
Have fun.

His best work was "The Stand" and there are two versions, an edited one and the unedited huge volume. The Talisman is another of my favorites along with Rose Madder. One of his current works Lisey's Story is also quite good. The Dark Tower books are also a good read but it takes some time to get through them all.
Have fun.

The Green Mile is a must, and his newest one called Blaze was pretty interesting. The Bachman Books, and Cycle of the werewolf, definitely the dark Tower books. but my own personal favourite is The Eyes of the Dragon, it's more of a fairytale, and is a departure for SK.

"It" is really good too, just as good as "The Stand". "Salem's Lot" is another one of my favorites. It's about vampires in a small Maine town. I would also recommend two of King's short story anthologies, "Skeleton Crew" and "Night Shift". There are lots of good, creepy, scary short stories in those two books, in particular "The Mist" (Skeleton Crew). "The Mist" in fact is coming out as a movie in a few weeks.
Happy reading to you! :-)
