Mine: After discussing the 5 cents/cloth bag refund with the grocery store clerk, she forgot to give it to me. After checking my receipt on the way out, I went back for the 10 cents! I feel shamefully cheap. It's a character flaw. If you're a cheapskate too, how do you work on it?

I don't have a cheapskate confession to make. I just want to tell you that you need not feel too bad about yourself. It's your money so it's perfectly ok for you to be careful with it. There's just no need to feel ashamed of it. It's not a character flaw. It's just being careful with money. Just make sure you are not too obsessive with it and are not too mean with money when you're going out with friends.

I'm not that cheap, because time is money, but I know someone that cheap -- will squeeze every last ml out of a toothpaste tube and buys a huge shampoo that lasts all year. I guess ultimately they need security, but they aren't living life to the fullest.

I don't think you wanted the money as much as you felt the store needs to fulfill it's end of the bargain.
