Wow, sociology was one of my all-time favorite classes in college. But it also could have been because of my great professor. I think a great topic for a paper would be: "Are families happier today than 100 years ago?" Or you could even say 50 years ago. The reason why I find this interesting is because when you look at the high divorce rate, most people assume that families are unhappier than they were in the past. However, there's another way of looking at it -- do people have a higher standard of "happy" now than 100 years ago, hence why they get divorced more often? Is staying in a miserable marriage better than getting out of one? In the past, the concept of marrying for love was completely foreign. They were set up by their families, in many cases. Back during the Gold Rush Era, it was common to hear folk songs about how unhappy a man or woman was with their spouse, and how happy it would make them to kill him or her! How many songs like that do you hear today?

I'm not sure how you would "prove" happiness, but it would sure be interesting to read.

I would love to see a paper on the influence of television on the lack of civility in today's society (just look at some of the "questions" and answers on this site and the Craigslist forum for examples). People like Rush Limbaugh, the cartoon South Park, and most sitcoms today encourage everyone to be less civil and help kids think that this is how to act in society. Good luck in your people no matter what you decide to write!
