This may be just me, but does anyone else find that if you post a light-hearted question, sometimes the answers that you get are very serious and can even wander into the realms of almost using you as therapy, or off-loading their stuff. It takes all sorts I know and I hope that they gain something from it, but I have been taken aback at times by the strength of feeling behind the answer to a light weight question. YA to me, is a bit of fun, talking to mainly a good set of people who are also fun. It also has the ability to answer more serious questions if needed. What's your view?

No its not just you, or if it is then it's you and me both.
One of the best laughs I had on here was a question which read:-
"If I hit my friend across his face with a hedgehog would it hurt"?
I laughed my socks off, who could make up something like that, where had it come from?
Then when I finished laughing I read the replies, the poor feller was being reported for cruelty to hedgehogs, he was inundated with advise on how to love and care for a hedgehog, threats from animal right folk, this lot had me in stitches all over again. How could some folk take that as a serious question?
But on balance I would say there are very few really vindictive folk on this forum , and even the answers that come up as "Duh" or "Dunno" just to get their 2 points seem to have all gone now?
I enjoy all of it, I hope you continue to.

I've seen that happen, but I realize it's often difficult to tell by what is 'written' if the person is serious or not, we see no facial expressions to give us a clue. It would be nice to have a code to use to know someone's joking, I put 'lol' a lot on my answers, so they know I realized they weren't serious and I answered in kind. If I think a question is serious and I can help, I will. If someone asks a question and the answer I have is a serious one I give it. I'd rather err on the side of caution and give a serious answer than have someone think I was making fun of something that is a problem to them.

Ha ha! Yeah. I went through a stage of asking fake incest related questions just to see how many fools would try and "counsel" me. Lost a couple of accounts that way, maybe went into a little too much detail... but still the serious answers came...

The thing is, you have to have some modicum of intellect to be able to manage humour, and intellect is not in abundance round here. That's what the violations button is for - so the stupid can feel powerful...

I had not noticed this but I don't ask many questions. However like Resigned I am sometimes worried but the dogmatic answers given by people who clearly do not know what they are talking about. I am not so concerned when it is purely medical questions as anyone asking a question about their medical condition should know better and go to a doctor. Its the psychological ones often to do with people feeling guilty about some act which they think infringes the religious teaching they received in childhood. The religious zealots come out of the woodwork and give advice based on ignorance which is only going the make the situation worse.

I do agree with you to some extent, I myself come on here with a lighthearted view, but there are some serious people on here as well who take Y!A very serious!! I know a serious question when I see one, and would answer it with that in mind.
Some claim only serious and genuine questions only should be asked, there are, as well, some with no sense of humour whatsoever, then report you for abuse, WTF that is all about I will never know.........

When I post light hearted Q's I often get criticism about how so many people use this forum for serious help and when I post humourous stuff I get chastized occasionally for that too. So go figure. I think it depends on the phase of the moon or maybe its just me.

I think some people might actually be on here looking for real answers, while others are just looking for a bit of fun. To be fair to the ones who are really having problems, I think it would be nice to give them serious consideration in case they are in need of real help. You might actually make a difference in someone's life... someone who might have no one else to turn to.

I get worried about the misinformation handed out to people by some answerers. The medical questions bother me most, why on earth would people ask a load of strangers serious matters related to their health.

Welcome to the web...

It's what you get if you have a bunch of repressed individuals who can post any rubbish they feel like that makes them feel better about their own pathetic existence (and yes, I'm including myself in this catagory).

Just keep having fun, and remember that even serious answers (like most of mine) are usually more than slightly tongue-in-cheek.
