They may not contain viruses as such but, one should never let your guard down. Set your mailbox spam filter to make it easier to just delete in mass. As much as I hate to say it, my Yahoo email account is the worse offender for forwarding that sort of stuff. I know it's possible to upgrade to a premium account to slow/stop it. At the same time, I feel, as you must, that I am being targeted to force me to upgrade. I have been on Yahoo since like forever~! I refuse.
That might be an option for you..To upgrade and, lessen the amount of junk mail.

They may not contain a virus, but they are out to get your info! Never , never, EVER click onto a link on one of them...this is how they steal your info and from there, they will steal your money!! The bank told me this when I was the victim of attempted on line fraud. Another account at my bank tried to transfer$995.35 from my account into theirs. Luckily, I caught it in time. The bank said it is usually from some unknown source over seas. I had to change all of my accounts! This all started on Oct. 4th and I still haven't got all my auto bank payments and direct deposits straightened out. It has been a nightmare! Stay clear of those sites. Mark them as spam, and fraud, and alert your email provider.

Though not likely to, It's entirely possible.. Especially if you don't know where they come from. My advice would be just to delete them.
