No, it isn't. And it was never meant to be. When our country first started, farmers had a heck of time with all the problems they encountered in farm life. They created the agriculture dept. to help find more efficient ways to improve production and output on the farms, and since they were the only ones who were providing us with food, they started to subsidize them so they could keep going and producing what they could. Farming is an old profession and has an interesting history. This would make a good blogging subject. No one really understands the farming system or what they really do. But, that was back in the old days when farms were run by families. Small farms just trying to get by. Now we have Corporate farms which has become a whole nother kettle of fish. absolutely!

and they are very strange indeed.

CURRENT farm subsidies give land owners in new york city millions of dollars - to support land that has not been used for farming for literally hundreds of years.

you'll never in a million billion years guess which party is currently defending the status quo of farm subsidies and against a reform of them.
