I think the current generation of rock fans don't really know these, but back in the day, a band was almost *required* to have a cool logo.
Today, I guess they're seen as passe &"cheesy".
But I think a few of them were great works of design. I'd be curious to see any new ones if they *are* still being made & I'm just unaware of it.
I noticed most metal bands do the tattoo/'sharp edge" thing.
But here go some of my fave classics:

"Skeletor"! LMAO!
Les Douze -
Sisters of Mercy is cool! Never seen it before. Also like Bjork's. Looks very much of it's time. (90s?)

Totally forgot about Queen! Very fitting of the music. I understand Freddie designed it. The guy could've easily taught graphic design classes if he wasn't a musician.

Ah, those were the days. I have fond memories of drawing the logos of my favourite bands on my school exercise books and folders. Mostly metal bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Overkill, etc. These days if you did that now with today's bands, they would be out of date within a year.

Yes, it seems that if a band chooses to have a logo these days, it must include the name.
But I do love the Tool third-eye.

The germs is a simple circle. People who said the who didn't bother to look at the pic, it isn't the Who's mars symbol. Could be an archery target, but could also be the RAF logo.

First one that came to my mind was on the front of Ringo's kick drum. Can we call that the "first" band logo? If not, can we agree that all were on the kick drum of each band? Okay, can we all agree that this is R&P?

LOL, I remember that Thin Lizzy one so well! And who can forget "Motorhead" with the two dots over the letter "o" and that skull underneath?
EDIT - yeah, that's the one! Apparently a gorilla-wolf-dog skull with boar's horns, according to the artist. Nice...gulp...
Scorpions, Ozzy, Iron Maiden - they all had very distinctive typefaces as well. I think even Boston did, or am I dreaming that? Asia, too...
