This is an example of sceintific notation
3.8 E 2 can also shown as 3.8 e +2 or (3.8)(10^2)
which is (3.8)(10)(10) = 380 ANSWER

In scientific notaton you want to place the decimal right after the first digit. Most calculators have a conversion button; the one in microsoft has a button called F - E

To run the microsoft calculator hit the 'start' button, then hit the 'run' tab and type 'calc' then hit the 'ok' button. When the calculator comes up hit the 'view' tab then choose 'scientific'.

GOOD LUCK

the big E, basicly means 10^, meaning
E3 is 10^3=10*10*10=1000
so 3.8*E2=3.8*10^2=3.8*100=380.
I will warn at this moment that is a small assumption, I've been seeing more and more of that creep in because of certain calculators. Don't care for it much myself, been then nobody asked.
