Let me explain, I need a place to hide, like my emergency cash or whatever it is people need to hide. I thought about putting it in my VCR player since I don't use it anymore. Is this a good idea or bad idea? Why? Will doing this ruin my VCR player or ruin the odjects I put in it?

Just stuffing stuff in the slot is a bad idea and will cause damage if someone trys to use the VCR. Also your stuff could wedged in the VCR which would require dissembling the VCR to get it back out.

If you want to hide your stuff in the VCR, I suggest that you modify an old VCR tape to put your stuff in.

You can buy these for about $20.

You can also make your own from an old VHS tape. Take a look at the bottom of an old tape. These are just held together with a few screws. Once you open the cassette up you can discard the tape & tape reels. You must put some baffles/dividers in the cassette shell. If you look at the bottom of the cassette, you will see some slots & holes where parts of the VCR stick up into the cassette. You have to make sure that these areas are clear of any of your stuff, otherwise you will damage the VCR when it trys to load.

It wouldn't hurt to put a boring label on it like "church camp 1987"

If you're really not going to use the VCR, it'll probably be OK, although it may be hard to get the items back out unless you have very small/slender fingers.

Anyways, if you're looking for places to hide stuff, why not get one of those wall safes that looks like an electrical outlet? After all, a thief will probably try to steal the VCR - and with it, your secret stash.

Try hiding it behind a picture in a picture frame - its always worked for me. As long as you don't use the VCR or have one of the VCR tapes thats made for a camcorder tape and stash it in there the VCR itself should be a safe place - but dont just stash money in there unless you have one of the camcorder tapes - if you dont use your VCR then i'd say go for it - but with any electronics any objects not meant for it can't be good for it. Good luck.

I wouldn't be too concerned with damaging your VCR, kind of a dead technology, and people would ask questions on why you even own one. This is what I do, I took a book and cut a square in the middle through about half the book. The good thing about this is if you get the lamest book you can think of, no one would even bother opening the damn thing.
