First of all he encountered many things to get to before his voyage started. First he went to France for expenses paid for the voyage. They didn't believe in his maps. So they said NO. he then went to Portgeul and they would have, but they wanted control of all so then He went to Spainthe king said no but the queen said yes And gave 3 ships. No one would go at first. Finally he got a crew together and started the voyage. About 3 quarters of trip there was mutiny, but columbus made a deal with the crew if they don't see land in 2 more days they could kill him. They obvously saw land. They landed in El Salvador. Not alot of gold, so he took gold and spices and 5 people back with him. He left some of his men and his people got greedy and the natives killed all of the people he left behind. Here are a few encounters.. Hope it helps.

People seem to forget there were more ships in Columbus' fleet than acknowledged today, one was sunk near the Azores by a ferocious sea monster and another disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. And, his first mate was lured to his death by a siren, whom he dove overboard to join. Thank heavens the Flying Dutchman appeared and led them to land or who knows what would have happened.
