1 of 2 reasons
1 : As most of the internet "core hardware" resides in the USA, the data has a lot further to travel and therefore get caught in traffic queues, esp when the french air traffic controllers go on strike.
2 : Could simly be that there has not been the investment in the technology behind the internet. Therefore slower systems transfer the data around.

Dear Net has more thn KBs speed..... Let it discuss in Pakistan.
Dear infact MB/s speed is available in Pakistan in the main areas..... but they are a bit costly....... it depends on you and your pocket.... mean if you need higher speed and if your pocket can bear it thn no way.... just go ahead to the ptcl and ask thm for broad band connection or dsl...... usually net speeds available in PTCL is
128KB/s
256KB/s
512KB/s
1 MB/s
2 MB/s
10 MB/s
it depends on you....So there is nothing that Pakistan has only KBs...... and other have MBs..... no no just if you are using KB speed thn you will call it in KBs and other wise if you have MB connection thn you will it call MBps.......While usually in the other countries there is also some type of connections in KBps..... they also called it KBps but other case when they have MBs they call it MBps..... so it depends on you... what you are using and what you are calling.......
Go Ahead and check PTCL, Paknet or other net providers sites.... you will also find the MBps........ usually in Main cities of Pakistan like ISlamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi etc you may have Cable Net connection and they will also offer you many many MBps in speed..... so its upto you.....

MB = Megabytes.
We in the US use kbps and Mbps to measure our internet speeds.
Its merely a measurement, and if you're measured in kilibits its probably because you have a slower connection.
ALL Modem traffic in the US is measured in kbps.
UPDATE: MB's is incorrect. We do not measure internet speed in MegaBYTES. We measure internet speed in MegaBITS. MegaBYTES=MB. MegaBITS=Mbps.
